Indian Baby Food Recipes For 1 Year Old
Kara Pongal
- Soak 1 cup of rice and ½ cup of ghee for 30 minutes, set aside
- Heat 1 tsp of ghee in a cooker, add 1 tsp of jeera
- Sautee a pinch of ginger and a small handful of curry leaves for 1 minute
- Add rice and dal mixture, along with 5 cups of water and cook
- Remove curry leaves before serving
Tomato and Carrot soup
- Heat 1 tsp of butter in a pressure cooker, add ¼ tsp of cumin seeds
- Cook 2 tbsp of finely chopped onions and 1 finely chopped garlic clove until golden
- Add 1 cubed carrot and 1 cubed tomato with enough water to cover
- Bring it to the boil
- Pressure cook to 3 whistles
- Grind and remove tomato skins
Fish curry
- Sautee 1 finely chopped onion, 1 finely chopped garlic clove and 1 tsp of finely chopped ginger in 1 tbsp of coconut oil
- Mix in a pinch of chili powder
- Add 200ml of water and 2 finely chopped tomatoes, bring to the boil
- Simmer for 4-5 minutes
- Add 125g of white fish – skin and bones removed, cover and cook for 2 minutes
- Add 30ml of yoghurt and ½ tsp of coriander, cook for 2 minutes
- Add 1 tsp of garam masala to taste
- Cook rice to eat alongside curry
Egg burji
- Beat 1 egg with 3 tbsp of boiled milk
- Melt ½ tsp of butter and add egg mixture, stir until scrambled
- Mix 1 tsp of grated cheese with a pinch of pepper and salt, stir
Rava Dosa
- Mix ½ cup of rava, 1 tsp of jeera and a pinch of salt
- Carefully add ½ cup of curd, then slowly add 3-4 cups of water for a consistency like thick buttermilk
- Heat a pan and spread dosa batter from outside to inside, the dosa will have holes
- Circle 1 tsp of ghee before closing the lid
- Finished when crisp!
Sweet Pongal
- Melt ½ cup of jaggery with ½ cup of water to dissolve, strain and put aside
- Heat 4 tsp of ghee and roast 1 tbsp of moong dal for 3 minutes in a pressure cooker
- Mix ½ cup of rice and 2.5 cups of water, pressure cook to 4 whistles
- Add the jaggery water to the mixture with the ghee a pinch of salt and 1/3 tsp of cardamom powder
- When it has started to thicken, add ½ cup of milk
- Cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring regularly
Mango Idli
- Heat 1 tbsp of ghee and dry roast 1 cup of semolina until golden brown, set aside
- Grind 1 cup of mango pulp, 1 cup of plain yoghurt, 1 cup of grated coconut and 1 cup of sugar to make a paste
- Add the paste to the semolina and mix
- Grease an idli pan using ghee and cook mix for about 20 minutes
- Add crushed cashew nuts before serving
Oats pancake
- Mix ½ grated carrot with ½ finely chopped onion in a bowl
- Add 2 tbsp oat powder, 1 tbsp gram flour, ½ tbsp turmeric powder, ½ tbsp coriander powder and a pinch of salt and pepper
- Add enough water to make a smooth paste, set aside for 10 minutes
- Melt a little ghee in a pan
- Pour 1 ladle of the mix into the pan and spread to make a pancake
- Cook both sides until golden
Sweet Potato Dosa
- Wash and peel 75g of sweet potato, cut up into small pieces and grind with some water
- Add to 1 cup of dosa mix, stir well, set aside
- Heat a little ghee in a dosa pan, pour the mix and spread to make a pancake
- Add chopped onions, chopped coriander and grated carrots on top and fold
Sweet corn paratha
- Cook ½ cup of sweetcorn and blend
- Put in a bowl and add: 1 cup of wheat flour, ½ cup of yoghurt, 1 tbsp of ginger paste, chopped coriander leaves, ½ cup of chopped spring onion, a pinch of turmeric powder, 1 cube of grated cheese and a pinch of salt
- Use hands to make dough into small balls
- Flatten the balls into paratha and cook in a pan until both sides are golden
