Stye on Baby Eye

Styes are much more common in babies than in adults and can be treated at home with ease and care. There are Home remedies for stye that are safe and effective.

These red, painful bumps can be treated at home but we always recommend you consult a doctor if it does not completely subside within 2 weeks (and does not reoccur).

What causes a stye, you ask? There are many reasons a stye can show up in your baby’s eye. Unclean hands around the eye area, cleaning of the eyes with a dirty cloth, or even using contaminated water could cause a stye. While a stye in a baby’s eyes is not something to get anxious about, they still require you to be careful.

Children are playful and touch surfaces and often put their hands in their eyes and mouth. One of the best ways to treat a stye is to avoid one. Maintain hygiene around the baby and clean surfaces with disinfectant. Ensure you clean your baby’s hands, clothes, and towels before they eat and after they play.

If your baby has a stye, one of the home remedies for a stye is a simple warm compress. Gently apply a warm compress on your baby’s eyes 2-3 times a day.

Many people wonder if rose water is good for eyes. And yes, it is. Rose water for stye is effective. But ensure you do not use concentrated rose water for baby’s eyes. Instead, dilute rose water with fresh water and apply on your baby’s eyes with a cotton ball. Repeat this 4-5 times a day.

Rose water for eyes has antimicrobial properties and helps soothe irritation. We recommend you do not try to pop the stye or touch it with bare hands as inflammation could increase.

Keep your baby’s eye area clean at all times, even when they don’t have a stye. Do not try to pop a stye under any circumstances as it could infect the baby’s eyes even further.

It is easy to understand how to carefully treat a stye in a baby’s eyes, but please consult a doctor if the swelling increases beyond the eyelid, your child is rubbing their eyes too much, if your baby is not able to open their eyes, or there is a discharge in the eye.

While these are effective home remedies for treating the stye in your baby’s eye, we would always recommend you consult a health professional if any of the above symptoms show.
